State Vocational Rehabilitation Agencies

Every U.S. state and territory has a federally-funded VR agency that helps people with disabilities prepare for, find, and keep employment — often funding supported-employment services through community programs like Bridges. Find the agency for your state and ask about supported-employment providers in your area.

APSE is the national organization for supported-employment professionals. Their member directory can help you find a supported-employment program in your local area.

Job Accommodation Network (JAN)

Free, confidential guidance on workplace accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Useful for both employers figuring out how to support a hire and workers asking for accommodations.

Ticket to Work

A free, voluntary federal program that helps people receiving Social Security disability benefits try work without immediately losing those benefits. Includes safety-net work incentives and connects participants with approved employment networks or state VR agencies.

ABLE National Resource Center

Information on ABLE accounts — tax-advantaged savings accounts for individuals with disabilities that don't count against asset limits for SSI, Medicaid, and other federal benefits. Useful when a young adult starts earning their first wages.
