From a heartbreak interview to Finish Line, then the Army

Veronica was a TechBoston Academy senior when an interview at Regina Pizzeria fell through. She kept applying. A month later, Finish Line hired her, and a year after that, she enlisted in the Army.

Boston, MA

Veronica Saus was a senior at TechBoston Academy when she started working with her Youth Employment Specialist, Sandra, in March of 2024. Sandra helped her polish her resume and apply to a wide range of employers: gyms and rec centers like Planet Fitness, YMCA, and FMC Ice Sports, plus retailers like Foot Locker, Star Market, CVS, TJ Maxx, and Stop & Shop.

Regina Pizzeria invited her to interview. Sandra prepped her. The interview went well. The manager told Veronica to bring a work permit, and the job would be hers.

When Veronica returned with the permit, the manager told her they had filled the position with another candidate.

Veronica did not let it stop her. She kept applying. Less than a month later, Finish Line hired her, and she started as a store associate on July 10, 2024. After computer training on her first shift, she moved to the sales floor, stocking, cashiering, and helping customers. She felt confident in the role.

Veronica continued working at Finish Line until June 2025, when she left Boston to report for Army basic training.
