About this program

Bridges New York City is based at 1460 Broadway in midtown Manhattan and serves young adults ages 14 to 24 across select high schools in all five boroughs. The program partners with the New York City Department of Education and the New York State Department of Education to identify students who can benefit from career readiness support and to coordinate transition planning.

Founded in 2018, Bridges New York City is one of the most recent additions to the Bridges network, building on more than three decades of national experience to serve young adults across one of the country's largest school systems.

Bridges NYC is supported by a network of New York-based foundations and grantmakers, including the New York Community Trust, the Butler Foundation, the Taft Foundation, and the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation. This funding base supports career preparation, placement, and on-the-job follow-along across the boroughs Bridges serves.

Like every Bridges site, the New York program is free for participants and their families. A Youth Employment Specialist works one-on-one with each young adult to identify career goals, develop interviewing skills, connect with employers, create a résumé, apply for jobs, get a job, and succeed in a job. After a placement, the same specialist supports the new hire through the first year of employment, coordinating with the employer's HR team and following up at 30, 60, and 90-day milestones. The program is funded through grants, donations, and corporate giving. There is no tuition, and no fee to the employer.

The New York City office is open Monday through Friday, by appointment.

Pre-Employment Transition Services

Starting earlier, right in the classroom.

The Pre-ETS program is free for students and schools. Pre-Employment Specialists currently collaborate with 28 schools, pushing into classroom settings on a weekly, biweekly, or scheduled basis to deliver the curriculum in a group setting. Sessions include classroom workshops and, occasionally, site visits to employers around the New York area.

As Pre-ETS students turn 18, they can connect with an Employment Specialist and move into the Job Placement program.
